Jean

We have developed a number of films which look at different aspects of, and attitudes to equity release. This example case study has been inspired by people who have experienced equity release advice.

Just Retirement Limited only sells equity release through financial advisers and partners - we do not provide financial advice. However, Just Retirement Limited are members of the trade association for equity release providers, SHIP (Safe Home Income Plans), which advocates that advice should always be sought when considering equity release.

Jean was looking to improve her lifestyle in retirement and wanted to travel with her daughter, improve her home and spend more time keeping healthy at the gym.

Jean has been widowed for 5 years and wanted the freedom to enjoy her retirement. She used the money tied up in her home to enable her to do some of things she wanted to in retirement such as join a gym and spend more time on holiday with her daughter and grandchildren.

Like many people she was apprehensive about seeking financial advice and spent time seeking re-assurance that she was doing the right thing, particularly from her children.

Once Jean had taken advice she found that she understood the pros and cons of equity release and was able to make decisions from a position of knowledge and understanding. Jean is happy that she now has money available to maintain her home and do the things that she wants to do in her retirement.

Equity release may involve a lifetime mortgage or home reversion plan. To understand the features and risks, please ask a financial adviser for a personalised illustration.
