
What you can expect
For many people, taking out an equity release plan is likely to be one of the most serious financial decisions they ever have to make. So it is essential that plenty of time is taken to weigh up all the relevant considerations.

All our customers can choose to speak to their advisers either face-to-face or over the phone. The process may take longer and we encourage our customers to move at a pace which they are comfortable with. The typical advice process is as follows:
- In the first appointment, the adviser will conduct a fact find of an individual’s circumstances to understand their full financial situation and their present and future needs. After the appointment the adviser will prepare a report on the suitability of equity release.
- Between the first and second appointments we will review a clients circumstances and ascertain eligibility for benefits or grants that are not being claimed
- The second appointment will take place to talk through all our recommendations, answer any queries and, if appropriate, our product recommendations.
Other steps
Before anyone actually takes advice it is helpful to consider some of the following:
- Gain some idea of how much money they are looking to unlock from their home and when they might need it
- Whether the scheme should be solely in their own name or in joint names
- Appoint an independent solicitor to protect your interests and to make sure you fully understand the commitment that you are signing up to
