A new deal from British Gas which rewards those who refer 'vulnerable' people for free loft and cavity wall insulation could help retirees cut their energy bill. The energy giant recently announced that any UK consumers who refer an elderly or disabled person for the free service will receive £50 as a reward. Commenting on the initiative, Kevin Sears, energy efficiency expert at comparison website uSwitch.com, claimed that consumers should embrace energy efficiency in their home in a bid to reduce their energy bills. He said: "With suppliers desperate to hit carbon reduction targets set by the government, they are falling over themselves to offer consumers great deals on products such as insulation."This offer from British Gas should help draw attention to the help available, and could help more people cut their energy bill."A recent YouGov survey revealed that over half of consumers (52 per cent) have no idea that they can get help to make their home more energy efficient, with just a fifth revealing that they have been contacted by their supplier about the scheme.
