CBI: Govt must continue with pension reforms
20/09/11

The government should continue with its plans to reform public sector pensions, the Confederation of British Industry has advised.

Deputy director-general at the organisation Dr Neil Bentley explained that although the process is "never easy", it is important for the coalition to make good on its promises.

He claimed these pensions must be fair for taxpayers as well as employers.

Furthermore, Dr Bentley highlighted that the government has already "said it will protect lower earners from the full increase in contributions and public sector workers will still have among the best pensions in the UK".

He made these comments after the introduction of strike ballots was announced at the Trades Union Congress's annual meeting today (September 14th).

Dr Bentley said union leaders should avoid disruption by negotiating deals with the government.

Age UK recently protested against the decision to increase the state pension age for women to 65 before 2020, stating that this would leave many females out of pocket.
